THERAPY SERVICES OF GREATER KC

Welcome and thank you for taking time to learn more about my therapy practice! I specialize in relationship concerns and couples therapy, optimizing performance, anxiety, mood concerns, and coping with stress. My practice is based in Overland Park, Kansas and I provide therapy services to residents of the Kansas City Metro, Kansas, Missouri, and PSYPACT participating jurisdictions.

ABOUT ME

My name is Sebastiano “Yano” Procopio. My career in mental health has been quite transformative, both professionally and personally. In fact, I cannot think of a role as rewarding as being a therapist. Throughout eight years of graduate level educational and clinical training, as well as over six years of licensed clinical experience, I have spent thousands of hours working with clients – individuals, couples, groups, and families – in a variety of settings including university counseling centers, community mental health agencies, and long-term care facilities. I have provided services to clients navigating general stress, depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, persistent mental health concerns, trauma, professional and academic performance concerns, sexual identity development, gender identity development, racial identity development, religious and/or spiritual concerns and development, and life transitions.
I believe that effective therapy is personalized and affirming, which is why I work hard to understand my clients’ unique experiences. In whatever manner is appropriate, I combine cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, solutions-focused, and systems-oriented approaches. You can expect that we will collaborate to determine how you can achieve the change and improvement you want.

IMPROVE YOUR ABILITY TO COPE WITH STRESS

It’s no secret that stress exists. At times, stress is caused by outside situations or experiences, for example stress due to work, money/finances, relationships, school, and grief and loss. At other times, stress arises from internal struggles, for example anxiety, mood concerns, self-criticism, and lower than desired self-esteem. To make things more complex, at times stress caused by outside situations and experiences intensifies our internal struggles and vice versa. Knowing how you can cope with stress adaptively is important. In therapy, you can work to identify coping strategies that are beneficial, flexible, and can be used for in-the-moment relief and ongoing self-care.

IMPROVE YOUR PERFORMANCE

Doing something well requires a solid plan for skill building. It also requires developing and maintaining a growth-oriented and confident mindset. If you want to perform better, for example at work, with public speaking and presenting, in school, with socializing and dating, therapy can provide a setting to identify short- and long-term performance goals, determine how to take and maintain action, and develop an optimal mindset for growth.

IMPROVE YOUR RELATIONSHIPS

Relationships take work. They require emotional investment and effective communication. Often, people look to relationships to fulfill needs of support, belongingness, respect, validation, and physical intimacy. Understanding how your own and your partner’s inner worlds and experiences shape your interactions can improve the likelihood of greater intimacy and satisfaction in a relationship. Couples therapy can offer opportunities to deepen your understanding of and connection with your partner so that you can work on tangible goals for growth and fulfillment.
